Fictitious Fruits was a five-day product and furniture design workshop led by renowned British designer Faye Toogood at the Domaine de Boisbuchet; an international research center for design and architecture founded in cooperation with the Vitra Design Museum.
During the week-long workshop, our group of 19 artist and designers were asked to produce a seating prototypes in response to ideas of softness and the agricultural context of the estate. The explorations of the workshop resulted in an exhibition titled Fictitious Fruits at Le Manège, a bamboo pavilion designed by the German architect Markus Heinsdorff, on the Domaine’s estate.
I developed a Field Mattress fashioned from a plastic agricultural bladder, and stuffed with cuttings of local clover, hay, and wool. The Mattress was finished with a hand-fashioned brass closure, and can be opened and replenished each growing season with new field cuttings.
